I truly and honestly love surgery. It's art and science. Mystery and madness. It requires intense concentration, fine handiwork, and a deep understanding of anatomy, physiology, and the ability of the human body to recover from trauma and restore what has been broken.
I don't love Family Medicine. It's convenient and easy. It's a choice that will always be available.
I just don't think I could handle the rigor of a surgical residency.
If Roald Dahl could travel in Africa for three years and serve in the Royal Air Force for two more years, I could do a five year surgical residency.
